In 1882, Antoni Gaudí took over the design of a church in Barcelona that would consume the rest of his life — and the lives of every architect who followed him. He worked on the Sagrada Família for 43 years. He died in 1926, struck by a tram, with the cathedral barely a quarter complete. His response to anyone who questioned the timeline was characteristically direct: "My client is not in a hurry."
